WEEKLY TASKS
There are three tasks each week:
First, there's a blog entry (about 250 words) which will have you respond to a hopefully thought-provoking question.
Second, there's a reading. There’s no blog entry associated with this. Just read.
Third, there's a written response to the reading. Your reading and writing on the blog must be completed by the SATURDAY (by midnight) of the week in which the reading falls. This entry should be a long paragraph.

I bought a laptop just recently and it helped me out alot. It made me feel bad when I first got it because it cost so much, but then when I got home, opened it, and used it for the first time... I fell in love with it. All of my thoughts of the amount of money i had went away. The amount of money no longer effected me. The quality of the laptop and its extra awesome features overpowered those stressed emotions. The touch screen, surround sound speakers, windows 8 software, keyboard backlight and its appearance really helped me with my homework. Like our previous reading explained; I am now eager to so my homework to touch the screen.
ReplyDeleteSpending good money on something you use every day is rarely a bad idea, as long as you do your homework and make sure you get the right item.
DeleteA good friend told me something along the same lines. "Spend plenty of money on anything that comes between you and the ground for any length of time: bed mattress, shoes, vehicle tires, and work chair."
There was a great man in history who once said "Live as if you would die tomorrow, and LEARN as if you would live forever." So congrats to you for discovering the motivation for education and making it as exciting as many other fun things....
DeleteWhile I wouldn't consider myself a materialist, I do like nice things. I like good craftsmanship, solid engineering and I prefer an aesthetic that is not dependent on trends or fashion.
ReplyDeleteBut what I like even more than that is not paying very much money.
I found a refurbished HMT Janata winding watch (no battery, all clockwork mechanism)from the 50's for sale online. I snapped it up, and put a spiffy NATO band on it, like a British officer might wear in the 60's. When I put the thing on my wrist for the first time, I was ecstatic. It was a perfect storm of my "watch nerd" fervor, my inherent Dutch inclination for frugality, and my love of a classic aesthetic all merging together.
I rarely ever spend money without feeling a twinge of guilt. I like to save my money and only ever spend it when I really need to or when I've gone months without pampering myself a little. When I say pamper, I do not mean going to a spa or nail salon and spending buckets of money on a manicure, pedicure, massage, no none of that. What I mean by pamper is buying something I've wanted for quite sometime simply because I like it.
ReplyDeleteA time I bought something and felt good about it was when I bought stationary for myself. I love stationary. The colors, the designs, the feel and smell of it are all very pleasing to me. I bought myself a stack of cream colored paper bordered by butterflies and cream colored roses. Buying it made me really happy because I could write letters on such pretty paper.
I know how this feels. I went about a year and three months without getting a haircut and without buying any new clothes, but it felt good saving the money.
DeleteI wish I have a twinge of guilt when I buy things, especially things that I know I do not need!!
DeleteTotally Sophia! I never feel a twinge of guilt when I buy things...unless its fast food.
DeleteOn the contrary I feel cross with myself when I don't buy things I don't need!
I say to myself "Nancy, you should spoil yourself! You work hard for your money--treat yourself to sometime nice. Don't be a martyr"
It's a crazy system and I hate it. I really am trying to change it. :)
Sometimes it's the smallest things that makes us feel good.
DeleteI love that you buy stationary! It seems that letter writing is quickly becoming a lost art, due to the increase in technology.
DeleteI recall being very pleased when I bought my first vintage piece of clothing; I still have it and it is still one of my favorite outfits.I have may vintage dresses and most of them are union made and made in the USA. I enjoy shopping for antiques and I like to buy my clothes at vintage stores. I think I enjoy it most because I find pieces that fit, pieces that are flattering, pieces that I am not going to see others wearing, pieces that do not make me feel "exposed", and it doesn't break my "piggy" bank.
ReplyDeleteI am actually wearing a vintage piece right now.
A skirt:
High-waist, flows (not form fitting), length is just below the knees, silk-like, it is a pink/peach color with colorful feathers printed on it, made in the USA, and made by the Int. Ladies Garment Workers Union.
I bought this piece for $5.00.
The skirt sounds pretty!!!!
DeleteI would love to buy some vintage pieces! Where are the best local places to look?
DeleteI love vintage! Especially when you can get something cute for a low price!
DeleteAfter slaving away at my first job right out of high school the first thing I bought was a bedroom set. Sounds kind of lame but for some reason I had always wanted one. My bedroom sets growing up were always made up of different pieces, usually all hand me downs, and were a hundred years old. So when I had enough money saved up I took a trip to Ikea (it was a cheap set obviously) and bought my first complete bedroom set. After having it all built and set up in my room I stood back in amazement. I was elated to have a room where all the furniture matched and in a style that I liked. I had so much fun decorating, mixing and matching the colors to my furniture so that my room had one cohesive style. Looking back I think it was so pleasing to me because I had worked so hard for it. It was my first big purchase on my own with no one else's help and it was something I had always wanted. I have since moved on to a more adult and much larger bedroom set in my new house. However, that first set is in my guest bedroom and until every last piece falls apart I refuse to get rid of it. I walk into that room and still get enjoyment out of seeing that bedroom. It actually takes me back to when I was fresh out of high school and reminds me of days when things weren't so difficult. This was the only purchase that I can say I was completely happy with and that to this day still makes me happy.
ReplyDeleteThat's a great first purchase. I remember working in high school, and my first big purchase was a mattress. I was given the hand me down from my brother. A very rewarding purchase a bedroom set can be.
DeleteSounds like a very good purchase! I honestly would be very happy buying a bedroom set. I don't have my own bedroom though so I can't!
DeleteI am at heart, a bargain hunter. I get pleased with scoring a deal of any kind. I'm a math guy, so i'm always calculating the difference between original and my ultimate paid price, and whenever, the (Original > Paid) I feel a sense of accomplishment. Yet, my greatest enjoyment in a purchase would be my wife's engagement ring. It took my almost a whole year of looking and searching to find the ring, that fits her perfectly. So when I stumbled upon the ring, I immediately knew this was the ring I was going to propose in. So when I actually purchased the ring, I had a felt downright giddy with excitement that now I can take the next step and make my wife.... well my wife. Long story short, she absolutely loved the ring, and claims that ring was made especially for her. So every time I take notice of the ring, I still get happy that I was able to find her ring.
ReplyDeleteAwww that is so sweet!
DeleteCute!
DeleteThis is tough, there are two times in my life that I bought something and made me happy and pleased me. One was when I first purchased my first car on my own. I bought my first SUV when I was 20 and was super happy because the vehicle was priced wrong which was even better. The dealer had priced it 3500 dollars less than what they wanted to sell it for. I loved the vehicle because it separated my kids in the back seat from beating each other. Also when I bought my first chandelier made me so happy and, still makes me happy when I look at it. It pleases me so much because when I first bought my first house I was very excited to start decorating how I always dreamed. I was on Google as usually looking for wholesale chandeliers and I came across a Kathy Ireland brown chandelier and fell in love. I had about a year looking for it for a great price. The retail price for the chandelier was 500 dollars which I wasn’t really willing to pay for it. One day I looked up the store where I had spotted the chandelier and found out there was a store in Fresno. On a Sunday afternoon my family and I decided to go down to Fresno and found the chandelier for half off! It made my day and I bought it without any hesitation. These two items pleased me very much because they make me smile till this day.
ReplyDeleteBuying your own car is such a milestone! Must have been an amazing feeling!
DeleteYes it was I felt like a responsible adult because my husband always paid for everything.I was a housewife and I did not like being home so got a job and made the best of it.
DeleteTo be honest I’m really bad with money. My mother says I’m just like my father, I walk into stores see something pretty and just buy it….Unfortunately, I live by my father’s motto “I’m only gonna live once mine-as-well buy it now” I know it’s bad and I’m by no means advocating this state of mind… Although, it can be fun sometimes; preferably if you live with your parents and your money is your money.
ReplyDeleteAny-who….my best purchase to date has been a new set of black on black tires for my Ford Mustang. I love looking at my car, leaving it in the parking lot, then looking up and asking myself wow is that my car—yes it is!
Another purchase I’m fond of is my MacBook Laptop (Mac) I actually searched for it online pretty cheap (you see I’m changing). I really wanted a Mac so badly since all my friends had one and they weren’t catching viruses all the time like my PC. So I waited, searched, and conquered!
Those are my two biggest and proudest purchases to date.
Oh definitely about buying anything for a car i felt the same way.
DeleteI actually am glad that I decided to purchase a Mac as well. I use it so much and I'm glad to have such a great laptop.
DeleteThanks!
DeleteI love Macs! Once you go Mac you never go back ;)
I would have to say that the first time I bought my first pair of shoes with my own money made me feel really good about myself. In the past I had to depend on my parents to get what I wanted or needed. At times that was not easy, well, it wasn’t easy a lot of times. My parents would question me about the shoes or make up some excuse that they do not have money for it at that moment. Which I knew they did. Or my mother will tell me that she would get me some but the ones she always bought were not something that I would want to wear.
ReplyDeleteSometime in December 2005, I went to the mall with my cousin with the money that I had saved up (which was approximately $100.00) and walked straight into the vans store. I was ecstatic . I did not know what to pick. There were just so many to choose from then I saw one that instantly caught my eyes. It had a plaid design with very soft colors like a dark green, light browns and a faded yellow. It was beautiful. On that day I was able to pay for my own shoe; a shoe that I wanted to get. I felt how it was to be independent that day and I loved every inch of it! From that day on, every time that I wanted something, I made sure to save my money so I would be able to buy what it is that I wanted.
AWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!
DeleteSophia, do you think you would have enjoyed them as much if you parents would have bought them for you?
DeleteCynthia- I would have appreciated it but there is nothing liking saving up for something and actually getting it. Makes you proud.
DeleteIt was the winter of my sophomore year of college I bought my first car, a 2000 Nissan Sentra, obviously nothing extravagant, but it was going to get me to and from school and work. I was filled with much joy and accomplishment because I felt that my life was coming together. I had finally received my license after it took me more than a few times to pass the written portion. I also moved out of the dorms (where a car was not a priority at the time) and into an apartment with a few of my closest friends I still keep in contact to this day. Needless to say, in an odd way, I felt more like an adult. I would have to say that was buying my first car on my own was the most pleasing moment I have experienced. Five years later, my car is still up and running. And it is because of my car I have had some of the most memorable times.
ReplyDeleteawww you became a responsible young lady good for you that's how i felt too.
DeleteIt is always rewarding to purchase something with your own money no matter how big or small the item is. You know how hard you worked to get it. The feeling you got is something you will never forget. I still remember the feeling I got when I purchased my first home.
ReplyDeleteMy mother was a field worker, so we learned at a young age the value of a dollar. She taught us not to be materialistic and buy only the necessary things. My mother was a single parent of four kids, so money was tight growing up. My sister and I purchased our first brand new car together, which felt great; however my greatest purchase was when I bought a house at the age of 20. I was very happy that I was able to get my mom her own house and able to move out of my grandparent’s home. I went two years to Bakersfield College after high school, and then went to work at two jobs. I remember working overtime on one job and part time on the second job to buy the house. The house was under my name; however, my siblings and I always say it is our mother’s house. It’s a feeling I will not ever forget when we got the keys to the house and was able to move in. It was very rewarding seeing my mom able to decorate her own house. I had sacrificed time with my family and friends when I was saving for the house, but at the end it was well worth it.
The purchase taught me how to save for things that I wanted to buy or do. I’m glad I learned at a young age the value of a dollar.
Growing up, my parents gave me an allowance in exchange for chores around the house. The first time that I made a satisfying purchase was when I bought my very own wallet when I was 11. I had never wanted anything else so much. I saved my weekly allowance for several weeks to afford this Sailor Moon wallet that I had seen in the window of the mall. It was a gorgeous wallet. One that was patented gloss with yellow stars surrounding the characters on the wallet. To me, it was the holy grail of all wallets. After saving enough money, I immediately went to the mall to claim my prize. I felt so grown up to be able afford the wallet on my own. It gave me sense of accomplishment and responsibility. The fact that I was able to purchase this with my own money without anyone else’s help gave me a sense of ownership over my new shiny wallet. I was mine, and I got it all on my own.
ReplyDeleteI used to love Sailor Moon too. I wished i would of bought a wallet the only thing I ever bought were their stickers.
DeleteI also received allowance for cleaning but I was never able to save up enough to buy something big like that. Im glad you were able to get your dream wallet!
DeleteI really enjoyed reading your story :)
DeleteAs a child I grew up in a family that did not make a lot of money so I never really had materialistic things. My mom would try her best to buy us name brand clothes and shoes however sometimes she could not afford it. So when I was a senior in high school I got a job so that I could buy the things she could not. I thought I was going to be one of those types of people who blow their checks as soon as they get them, however I found myself mostly saving my money rather than spending it. Furthermore, the time I recall buying something that made me feel really good was when I bought my prom dress. I bought my prom dress from BCBG on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills and I was so happy because I would have never been able to buy a dress from a place like that had I not had a job. I cannot explain in words how happy it made me. I would put the dress on everyday leading up to prom because I could not stop admiring the beauty of it. It was the first expensive purchase I had ever made and I did not feel one ounce of guilt or regret for buying it, which is a shocker because I usually feel that way after a big purchase. The dress was literally the most beautiful dress I had ever seen, and till this day every time I look at it I still think that is. Buying my prom dress made me feel really good because I felt like working hard finally paid off. It also felt good because I was able to say that I bought it with my own money and I didn’t even need anyone’s help. I have made some really big purchases that have made me feel really good since I bought my prom dress however nothing compares to that purchase.
ReplyDeleteI love shopping whether is for me or someone else. I don’t understand the reason why I enjoy shopping since I am one of the biggest savers there is. There have been many accessories and pieces of clothing I have bought. However, one item that did make me feel very happy was a special pair of black high heels. I found them at Macy’s. One day my boyfriend and I were shopping when I seen them and I had to try them on as soon as I seen them. That day I really wanted them very desperately yet I didn’t know if to get them or to wait to find some different ones. He knew that I fell in love with them even though I kept telling I didn’t like them. The pair of heels was the last part of the outfit that I was looking for and when I finally got them it made me feel so complete and satisfied because my outfit was complete. It was so perfect that I couldn’t wait to put it all together. The best thing about the high heels was that they matched most of my outfits they were comfortable even though they were really high. Of course my happiness wasn’t forever; my black heels got old and dirty within time. Later on I went back to find a new pair of heels yet, I never found a new pair that made me as happy as my old ones. I will never forget my unique black pair of heels. Now I just have pictures to remember them.
ReplyDeleteI love to buy things for myself. The pleasure that I get from purchasing something that I've had my eye on is really quite amazing. However, I think I probably get greater joy when buying something for someone else. I was about 6 years old and I saw a pretty necklace (at least I thought it was pretty!) that I wanted to buy for my mother for Christmas. I did little chores and jobs around the house to earn money to buy it. When I had finally earned enough, my dad took me to the store to make the purchase. I was so excited to give it to her, that I almost couldn't wait until Christmas. But I did. On Christmas morning, I climbed into my mom's lap and gave her the carefully wrapped box. When she opened it, she exclaimed over and over how beautiful it was. She immediately took it out of the box and put it on. They joy that I got when I saw how much my mom loved her gift surpassed any feeling that I could have over making a purchase for myself.
ReplyDeleteI love this story! I had a very similar experience when I was younger, so I can definitely relate to what you felt!
DeleteI would say I to have greater joy when buying something for someone else. Seeing people become excited and surprised by buying something for them is such a wonderful feeling. When I buy myself things I usually tend to have guilt or regret because I feel like I could have bought something for someone else or I could have bought something that would be put to better use.
Delete:") tears of joy!!!! Does she still have it! :)
ReplyDeleteOne time when I felt really great about something was when I was living at the beach and working at the Polo outlet. I had been to Romania the year before and met so many orphans who truly had nothing. I still had a contact in Romania, and knew that I could send clothes or other items to her if I could collec them for the children there. Polo ended up having a sale that took an additional percentage off of their sale items, and with my discount on top of that, I was able to get items for anywhere form $3.00 to $10.00. I took some of the money I had been saving, and my mom came and pitched in some money as well, and together we put together several children's outfits. We cleaned out the children's sale section in the store! I was so excited to put these adorable outfits together for the sweet Romanian children. We put together 20 to 30 outfits to send, and shipped them out the next day. My friend that lived in Romania at the time was really grateful for the clothes, as were the orphans that receieved them, and I can't even explain the feeling of joy that it gave me. Purchasing something for someone else feels so great to me, much greater than buying something for myself.
ReplyDeleteWhen I think back to a time that I bought something that made me feel really good, my mind instantly goes back to when I was 18 years old and my Father made me make a huge purchase that at the time I felt was a waste of time. It was not until about two months later that I realized that this was not only one of the most important purchases of my life, but also that it would give me a serious head start on the rest of my life. My Dad made me buy a Townhouse. Yes, a townhouse! The gratification was delayed because I honestly wanted to buy a new Toyota Supra fully loaded, but instead my Father talked me into using the money to qualify for a mortgage with 25% down on the townhouse. After realizing what a good move this was financially I was very thankful that my Father kept insisting that I buy the property. What really made me understand that this was not only a good thing but a great thing was that many of my friends were buying the new hot cars and were struggling to pay the rent on their apartments. You see back in Illinois you were more than just expected to move out of your parents home after high school graduation it was standard practice. There was a sort of frowned looked you received from other adults if you were over 18 and living at your parents house. It was two months after the purchase that my loan officer told me that I could refinance with the same bank after 6 months of on-time mortgage payments and then I could pay cash for the Supra and my mortgage payments would only increase by about $5.00. When I did refinance my mortgage payment only went up by $5.86. Yeah!!!! So now I had my car and a home. This purchase of the property gave me a real financial head start that is still paying off for me today. I have long since sold that townhouse and made almost double what I had paid for it and If my Father had not strongly insisted, who knows where I would be financially. I really learned that sacrificing and being patient when deciding to buy something pays you huge dividends in the future if you learn to buy things the right way.
ReplyDeleteThat's a wise choice you made, I can't wait until I purchase my first home. My parents were the same as well, my mom made me get a job when I was in high school and move out as soon as I could so I could stand on my own two feet and be financially independent. It sucked at the time, but it definitely made me more responsible now.
DeleteI wish my parents were like yours Rheal. If anything my mother, especially, discourages me from being independent. She reasons that if I had a job, my own place, and life; it would diverge time from school; I still got a job anyways and am looking into moving out once I get some money saved up. I'm glad you posted your story it really makes me feel like I can do it too :) Thanks!
DeleteThe thing my parents taught me, was not to wait. My Father told me that if the only property I could afford was a studio condo to buy it because it is an investment and someone would later want to purchase it or I could rent it out and let it pay for itself.
DeleteThank you to all who replied.
DeleteI like how you at first wasnt happy with buying your house, but later came to learn the what that really did for you. You have a fantastic father and congratulations to the both of you.
DeleteI don't really buy many things for myself because I'm a poor college student with a part-time job but completely financially independent. Most of my money goes to bills, rent, and groceries. I don't mind it because I've been independent since I was 21 and I'm 24. I feel really good being able to pay all my bills on time and provide a roof over my head all by myself. This makes feel accomplished and gives me a sense that I'm doing something right and able to provide for myself at a young age. I know when I'm done with school I will be able to have a better job and this will allow for me to spoil myself with whatever I desire. When I do have spare money to spend after I calculated my budget I like to be new shoes/clothes, take my girlfriend out, or even save money for a trip. Currently, I'm saving money for a trip to Boston in July to visit family and watch my friend that plays for the Boston Red Sox play against the New York Yankees. As long as I'm able to provide for myself I feel satisfied and accomplished.

DeleteHey Rheal I know how you feel! I moved out when I was 19 and I liked having that independence and having extra money is a luxury!
DeleteThere's no better game than the game of baseball! Hope you have a blast!
DeleteBell Moto 9
ReplyDeleteI dont usually get very excited about buying things. Last week when i bought my Bell Moto 9 helmet, I was the happiest person on the planet. This helmet isn't your run of the mill motorcycle helmet. Bell had to innovate a molding process just to be able to make the helmet the correct shape. This helmet is lighter, closer fitting to the head, and moves more air across the riders head via the new ventilation system. This helmet is the top of the line helmets that is made for motocross. It also meets DOT and Snell 2010 safety standards. This is Helmet is the safest lid made for anyone to put there head. When it comes to riding motocross and the inherent dangers that come with riding. I don't want to put my head into any second rate helmet. I want the best to protect my head. In the event of a head or neck injury wile wearing the helmet. The cheek pads are magnetic to make for easy removal. The inside top of the helmet has a emergency eject inflatable bladder to assist in removal when there is a neck or spine injury. This is a helmet that cost $500.00 and I only paid $215.00. This has been the best deal i have ever received. No when i ride i feel safer and have the most comfortable helmet on the market. I"m so proud of this helmet that I'd wear it to bed but my wife wont let me. She says it creepy sleeping next to someone with a helmet on.
Scoring great deals is awesome!! It makes the purchase that much sweeter.
DeleteI was about 18 and was about to start college and I decided that I needed to invest my money into something that I was going to need for school. My family didn’t come from much money and everything that I or my siblings had was earned. Whether it was by getting good grades or doing stuff for my mom, our money had to be earned it wasn’t just given. So from a young age I knew that I had to work for whatever I wanted, I had started working as soon as I could in order to help out my mom by buying my own things. In the summer before my first year of college I had saved enough money to buy my own laptop. It was really special to me because I had worked really hard to save that money. It was hard to let so much money go because I had worked hard to earn it, but once I got my laptop I knew it was worth it. I bought it in first quarter in college and I am currently on my third and I can honestly say that I have needed my laptop for my college career, especially this quarter because all of my classes are online. Without the purchase of this laptop I would not be where I am in my college career.
ReplyDeleteI think it’s great that you were taught that we have to earn what we want because I believe those values are being lost on the generations that follow us. All some kids do now is demand things from their parents; I think this way makes kids not appreciate anything in life. Congratulations on your laptop.
DeleteI think this is a great purchase, it not only was practice but it made you feel great about yourself as well.
DeleteI grew up with only one parent and as a child I never asked for much. My father passed away when I was 5 years old which means that i received social security until I was the age of 18. The social security I would get was always put away in the bank so it could be used one day for my college education. Right when I graduated from high school I got my driver license and bought my car with my social security money since I was granted financial aid. I will never forget the day I bought it because it means a lot to know that I now have transportation to and from school. I am very happy with this purchase because I did not use my entire social security money, but a portion of it. Till this day I still have not touched that other rest of the money. I only want to run to that money in case of any emergencies. I would like to say that I am very thankful that my mother put my social security money to the side or else I wouldn't have been able to purchase my car right out of high school.
ReplyDeleteI’m sorry about your dad, and I’m glad your mom put that money aside for your education. It could have been easy for her to use that money for what you guys needed on the day to day stuff but I applaud her for her choice because she thought of your future.
DeleteWell this blog will be extremely easy because the week before last I bought myself a Malibu 2012. This is a great accomplishment for me because I had been trying to get it since I started working in 2005. One thing or another kept getting in the way, but I finally found it and with all the features I wanted so I couldn’t let it go. I have always been taught to pray to god that if it’s meant to be it will be. If it’s the right object, job, or choice for me; then it will happen. The only thing about my new car is that I wanted it red but as soon as I can I will paint it. Buying this car myself was so important to me because it shows how hard I’ve worked and that it pays off to do everything the right way even though it may take longer. I was given my first car by my parents when I was 15 and I loved it. It was a Pontiac Grand AM and it was red. So I was in heaven; this is a very memorable occasion because my parents bought it in san Bernardino and when they came back to surprise with my new car I had sprained my ankle and it was swollen like 3 times its normal size because my cousin didn’t believe me and made me walk two blocks to the car. My mom took his head off though when she saw me though and that dulled the pain some. My second car was a Jeep and it was a hand me down from my brother, so that’s why buying myself the car I wanted meant so much to me and bring me so much joy and happiness. I can still barely believe it and I’ve been driving it for two weeks
ReplyDeleteBuying a car yourself is a great feeling. Especially, knowing that your hard work has paid off.
DeleteThe first time I felt really good about something I bought was the day I bought my cell phone. I felt very proud about this because I did not have a cell phone until my senior year in high school. This was because my parents are very old fashioned and, are also big believers in teaching their children that things aren’t just handed to you but that you have to work hard for them. In fact, my older sister had bought me a cell phone when I was a freshman and, they had made her cancel the contract and sell the phone. I was very upset about that and really disliked that they thought that way. Most of my friends in high school had cell phones by freshmen and sophomore year, but not me. So when I was old enough to work, I immediately set out to look for a job. However, since I was still pretty young I didn’t find a job until my junior year. Halfway through the year I was hired at a Taco Bell, and although it was not the ideal job, I was very happy to finally have a job. I saved up my checks and waited until I was sure I could pay a cell phone bill every month. I finally got my cell phone about a month before my senior year started and I was so proud that I was able to buy it on my own and was paying for it on my own.
ReplyDeleteAs much as I would like to be original with my story of my first purchase, I cannot. I think alot of us in class posted about our car buying experiences because it is an major purchase and it tends to be expensive. I have had many purchase moments that made me happy and very proud of myself. However, the best moment of joy and pride came this year when I purchased my 2013 Ford Fusion in January. I always had cars used and high in miles, which usually means many repairs. The feeling comes from knowing that no one else has ever owned my car. The car features are great. I never like having other peoples things or handed down items so it was an amazing feeling driving off the lot with only 5 miles on the odometer. I was able to save up a great deal of money for my down payment, making my payments offensively low to some. I smile every time I make a payment and people look at me like I'm crazy when I tell them how much I pay for the type of car I have. That's the really amazing part. Every time I get in my car, I am reminded of the joy and pride I have for my best purchase ever. My kids don't mind it either. My husband always gets in my car complaining about how small it is and I just politely remind him that I bought it for me. It is perfect for me and I definitely will cherish it for many, many years to come.
ReplyDeleteThats awsome you bought a Ford! Those are very nice cars. Id like to buy one for my wife when we save enough. Congratulations! Btw we only own Ford vehicles.
DeleteI have read quite a few buying experiences from the class and I think mine is a bit different from a new car or clothes. One of the most memorable purchases was while I was studying Spanish in Granada, Spain. When I first came to Spain I barely spoke any Spanish at all, so ordering at a restaurant was quite a task. However, over time and little by little my language skills began to grow and grow. Then one afternoon we decided to eat at an Argentine steak house and I remember that I ordered everything perfects from how I wanted the steak prepared to what I wanted for desert. And although this would have been a simple task in the U.S., this purchase was most definitely a challenge and a high point in my life.
ReplyDeleteShoes! I love shoes, they are always a pick me up when things are not going my way. Besides small shoe purchases the greatest thing I have bought that made me feel good was my family Rottweiler Ruckus. He is so special to me because he really was a great addition to my starting out family. He is our family dog and has been so great.
